Wool Processing

Stay in the beautiful, cosy Birkenshaw Shepherd’s hut and spend a weekend with us, learning all about the processes involved in making an item from fleece to finished product. You’ll learn how to sort and pick a fleece ready for washing, opening, carding, spinning and finally weaving an item of your choice to take home.

Friday afternoon to Monday Lunch time.

Spinning Retreat

This Spinning retreat is for experienced spinners or crafters and we can provide for you a space where you can spin without time restraints. Maybe you have a project you’d like to start or finish? Or a specific technique you would like to master? Treat yourself to that time away from distractions. To embrace the tranquility that enables focus.

We have a selection of different spinning wheels and fibre for you to try, or you can bring your own wheel.

There will be a starter pck for you, consisting of Heritage breed, high welfare fibre - 200g roving/batt or 300g raw fleece for your choosing.

I am also available for One-to-One help for tips and advice at an extra cost.

Spin by the campfire, or woodburner in the hut, or try a Druga spinner in the hammock. Spin your own super chunky yarn for a future project or refine your plying techniques while enjoying the view across to Ben Tarvie.

Our aim is to give you space to be mindful and to immerse yourself in nature and into your craft. You will stay in our beautiful Birkenshaw Shepherd’s Hut and have use of all facilities related to our hut stays, including our wonderful veggiie garden shower and the sunroom with its glorious views.

The accommodation is self-catering, so be sure to pop to the supermarket on your way here. We do have some complimentary tea, coffee etc to get you started and firewood for the woodburner is also complimentary.

There will a;so be items and tools available for pre spinning processing for you to use and more fibre to puchase if needed.
