Where we are

One cannot help but marvel at the beauties of this wonderful part of the world. With so much to see and do you won’t want to leave. There are amazing hills, mountains, water falls and Lochs to be found throughout Sutherland and staying with us gives you great access to all of it, with a cosy place to come home to at the end of the day’s marvelling and with our dark skies and if you’re lucky, being north facing, our hut can offer spectacular views of the Aurora Borealis, when in season.

Here in Badninish, tucked away down a quiet lane, we are a small crofting community surrounded by majestic hills and teeming with nature. We have regular visits from all sorts of wildlife including many raptors, for example, buzzards, red kites, hen harriers, ospreys and we’ve even caught sight of the occasional golden eagle! There are lovely walks and hikes to lochs and hills from our doorstep.

We are only 2 miles away from the NC500, so we have wonderful access to all that this corner of the highlands has to offer, including the historic town of Dornoch with its historic buildings, including the Old Jail, the wonderful Cathederal and the fabulous History Links museum, educating visitors about Highland life through the ages.

The town is host to a by-weekly market and a monthly Local Food Producer’s market too. Both accommodating a superb variety of stalls with so much to offer. There is also Thompson Bros Distillery in the heart of the town and in Summer, every Saturday evening the local Pipe Band plays.

Dornoch has an amazing beach, last year voted one of the finest in Scotland, where you can frequently spot seals, porpoise and all sorts of sea birds. Its great for swimming too!

There are eateries for all tastes and the world famous Royal Dornoch golf course.

Fishing passes for local lochs and rivers can be obtained locally and there is also bike hire available in the centre of town.

In the next town, Golspie, you’ll find Dunrobin castle and there are many Cairns and other historic structures to visit too.

Loch Fleet nature reserve is on our doorstep where you can watch the seals, ospreys and maybe, if you’re lucky an otter or two!
